COMPOSITION

1 g of cream contains:

 acyclovir 50 mg, hydrocortisone 10 mg. 

INDICATIONS FOR USE 

Recurrent infection of the lip skin caused by herpes simplex virus (Herpes simplex) in adults and children over 12 years of age. 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

For external use only. Adults and children over 12 years of age: the product should be applied twice daily. The product is applied in a thin layer to the affected and surrounding areas of the skin. The duration of treatment is at least 5 days.

DOSAGE FORM

Cream for external use 2 g.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

A combination product containing acyclovir and hydrocortisone. Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, Varicella zoster virus, Epstein–Barr virus, and cytomegaloviruses. Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticosteroid. When used topically, its therapeutic effect is due to anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antiallergic, and anti-exudative actions.

Pharmacokinetics:

 With topical use, systemic absorption of acyclovir is minimal; hydrocortisone may penetrate the stratum corneum and reach deeper epidermal layers, with only minimal absorption. At recommended doses, it does not cause suppression of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to the components of the product; skin lesions caused by other viral infections, fungal, bacterial, and parasitic skin diseases; skin tumors, rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis; children under 12 years of age.

Pregnancy and lactation: only upon recommendation of the attending physician.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

The most common adverse reactions are local reactions at the application site:

• • burning or tingling sensation 
  • skin dryness 
  • erythema (redness) 
  • pruritus (itching) 
  • irritation or peeling 
  • temporary increased skin sensitivity 

Less frequently, the following may occur:

• • allergic contact dermatitis 
  • worsening of inflammation with prolonged or improper use (due to hydrocortisone) 
  • skin thinning with long-term use on the same area 
  • development of telangiectasia (small visible blood vessels) with prolonged steroid use 

Important:

 This product is usually used for a short course; therefore, serious adverse effects are rare.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

No clinically significant drug interactions have been identified with topical use of the product.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Intended for short-term topical use only.

* Do not apply to mucous membranes, eyes, or large skin areas.

* Avoid use in other skin infections (bacterial, fungal, parasitic) unless prescribed.

* If no improvement occurs within a few days, diagnosis should be reassessed.

* Prolonged use is not recommended due to hydrocortisone (risk of skin atrophy).

* Use with caution on facial skin, especially with long-term use.

* In children and during pregnancy: only under medical supervision.
