PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Ulsepan is an anti-ulcer medicine. Its active ingredient, pantoprazole, is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme, responsible for gastric acid secretion.
Pantoprazole accumulates in gastric parietal cells, where it is converted into its active form and irreversibly blocks the proton pump. This reduces both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion.
Ulsepan also exhibits activity against Helicobacter pylori and enhances the effectiveness of antibacterial therapy used for its eradication.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- hypersensitivity to pantoprazole;
- hepatitis or liver cirrhosis with severe hepatic impairment.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
·possible — diarrhea, headache;
·rare — nausea, upper abdominal pain, flatulence, skin rash, itching, weakness, dizziness;
· isolated cases — edema, increased body temperature (fever)..
DRUG INTERACTIONS
When used together with medicines whose absorption depends on gastric pH (e.g., ketoconazole), Ulsepan may alter their absorption (bioavailability).
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
·Before starting therapy, gastric and esophageal malignancies should be ruled out.
·The diagnosis of reflux esophagitis should be confirmed by endoscopy.
· In patients with impaired liver function, liver enzyme levels should be monitored regularly during treatment.
