PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pharmacodynamics
Citicoline stimulates the biosynthesis of structural phospholipids in neuronal membranes, which improves membrane function, including ion-exchange pumps and neuroreceptors. Due to its stabilizing effect on the membrane, citicoline has anti-edematous properties and therefore reduces brain edema. Citicoline inhibits the activity of certain phospholipases, prevents the release of free radicals, prevents damage to membrane systems, and preserves the protective antioxidant system.
Citicoline reduces the volume of damaged tissue by preventing cell death through action on apoptosis mechanisms and improves cholinergic transmission. Citicoline also provides a preventive neuroprotective effect in focal cerebral strokes.
Citicoline promotes rapid functional recovery in patients with acute cerebrovascular disorders by reducing ischemic damage to brain tissue, which is confirmed by radiological findings.
In traumatic brain injury, citicoline shortens the recovery period and reduces the intensity of post-traumatic syndrome.
Citicoline improves brain activity, reduces amnesia, and improves cognitive, sensory, and motor impairments observed in cerebral ischemia.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
·hypersensitivity to the components of the drug
· increased parasympathetic nervous system tone.
