PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacological action of Reуtoil is due to a combination of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)) and a natural source of vitamin E.
The drug has immunostimulating, antihypertensive, anti-atherosclerotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-psoriatic effects.
The lipid-lowering effect is based on:
- inhibition of acyl-CoA:1,2-diacylglycerol acyltransferase;
- increased mitochondrial and peroxisomal β-oxidation in the liver;
- reduced hepatic lipogenesis;
- increased plasma lipoprotein lipase activity;
- decreased triglyceride synthesis.
The antiplatelet effect is due to changes in cell membrane lipid composition (including erythrocytes), with decreased arachidonic acid and increased EPA levels. This leads to reduced thromboxane A2 synthesis and increased thromboxane A3 production, reducing platelet aggregation.
Omega-3 fatty acids normalize lipid metabolism, reduce cholesterol levels, and improve blood rheology and cerebral circulation.
DHA is essential for fetal development as a structural component of the brain and retina. During pregnancy, intake may reduce the risk of preterm birth and allergic diseases in children.
Wheat germ oil is a source of vitamin E, which provides antioxidant protection and prevents cellular damage caused by free radicals.
