COMPOSITION

Each effervescent tablet contains:

• • Glucosamine sulfate (as glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride) — 750 mg 
  • Chondroitin sulfate (as sodium chondroitin sulfate) — 600 mg 
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) — 750 mg 
  • Manganese gluconate dihydrate — 20 mg 
  • Calcium (as calcium carbonate) — 500 mg 
  • Vitamin D3 — 400 IU. 

INDICATIONS FOR USE 

·degenerative and dystrophic diseases of the joints and spine (including osteochondrosis); 

·osteoarthritis grades I–III; 

·prevention and комплекс treatment of osteoporosis and its complications (bone fractures); 

·correction of calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency; 

·  as part of rehabilitation therapy after joint injuries. 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Protekta is taken orally, regardless of meals.

One effervescent tablet should be completely dissolved in 200 ml of drinking water at room temperature and consumed immediately after preparation.

For prevention and комплекс treatment of osteoporosis, as well as calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency:

• • 1 tablet once or twice daily. 

The duration of treatment and dosage regimen should be determined by a physician.

For the treatment of degenerative and dystrophic diseases of the joints and spine (including osteochondrosis) and osteoarthritis grades I–III:

• • during the first 3 weeks: 1 tablet twice daily; 
  • thereafter: 1 tablet once daily. 

The recommended treatment duration is 3–6 months. Repeated courses may be prescribed if necessary.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Protekta is a cartilage tissue regeneration stimulator. Its pharmacological action is determined by the properties of its active components.

• • Glucosamine sulfate stimulates the synthesis of proteoglycans, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, promotes cartilage repair, and provides chondroprotective and mild anti-inflammatory effects. 
  • Chondroitin sulfate participates in cartilage matrix formation, stimulates cartilage regeneration, reduces pain, improves joint mobility, and slows cartilage degeneration. 
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a natural source of sulfur that supports connective tissue repair, improves tissue elasticity, and exhibits anti-allergic properties. 
  • Manganese plays an important role in energy production, protein and fat metabolism, and the synthesis of bone and connective tissue. 
  • Calcium is a major component of bone tissue and supports neuromuscular and cardiovascular functions. 
  • Vitamin D3 enhances calcium absorption, promotes bone mineralization, and helps maintain healthy bones.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

·hypersensitivity to any component of the product; 

·phenylketonuria (contains aspartame); 

·thrombophlebitis; 

·tendency to bleeding; 

·hypervitaminosis D; 

·hypercalcemia; 

·hypercalciuria; 

·nephrolithiasis (kidney stones); 

·severe renal insufficiency; 

·active tuberculosis; 

·sarcoidosis; 

·children under 15 years of age; 

·  pregnancy and breastfeeding.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Central nervous system disorders:

• • dizziness; 
  • headache; 
  • drowsiness; 
  • insomnia. 

Metabolic disorders:

• • hypercalcemia; 
  • hypercalciuria. 

Gastrointestinal disorders:

• • flatulence; 
  • diarrhea; 
  • constipation; 
  • epigastric pain; 
  • nausea; 
  • abdominal pain. 

Other reactions:

• • tachycardia; 
  • peripheral edema; 
  • leg pain; 
  • allergic reactions.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

·Protekta reduces the effect of semi-synthetic penicillins and chloramphenicol, and enhances the effect of anticoagulants. 

·When used with phenytoin or barbiturates, the activity of vitamin D3 may be reduced. 

·When combined with cardiac glycosides, their toxicity may increase (ECG and clinical monitoring required). 

·Thiazide diuretics increase the risk of hypercalcemia by enhancing tubular calcium reabsorption. 

·Furosemide and other loop diuretics increase renal calcium excretion. 

·Cholestyramine and mineral or vegetable oil laxatives reduce absorption of vitamin D3. 

·When used with bisphosphonates or sodium fluoride, the interval should be at least 2 hours. 

·  With oral tetracyclines, the interval should be at least 3 hours.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

• • If gastrointestinal adverse reactions occur, the dose should be reduced by half; if no improvement is observed, the drug should be discontinued. 
  • Protekta may be used as part of combination therapy with glucocorticosteroids (GCS) and NSAIDs. 
  • To avoid overdose, additional intake of vitamin D3 from other sources should be considered. 
  • Foods containing oxalates (sorrel, spinach) and phytates (cereals) reduce calcium absorption; therefore, the drug should not be taken within 2 hours after such foods. 
  • Use with caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis due to the risk of hypercalcemia. 
  • Not recommended for patients with diabetes mellitus.
