COMPOSITION

In 1 g of cream contains:

Thiocolchicoside 2.5 mg. 

INDICATIONS FOR USE 

Symptomatic treatment of painful muscle spasms. 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Muscomed cream is for external use.

In adults and children over 15 years of age, Muscomed cream is applied 2–3 times daily under medical supervision. A strip of cream is applied to the skin and gently rubbed in. The amount used depends on the size of the affected area.

Hands should be washed after application.

The duration of treatment depends on the indication and therapeutic effectiveness.

Cream 30 g in an aluminum tube.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pharmacodynamics

Muscomed contains thiocolchicoside as the active substance, a semi-synthetic muscle relaxant derived from the natural glycoside colchicoside. It shows selective affinity for gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine receptors, which explains its action at different levels of the nervous system in both peripheral and central muscle spasms.

The drug moderately reduces or eliminates muscle spasms caused by central nervous system activity. In spastic muscle hypertonia, it decreases passive resistance to muscle stretch and reduces painful involuntary muscle spasms.

Muscomed has no curare-like effect, does not cause paralysis, and does not affect the cardiovascular or respiratory systems.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied locally, it is minimally absorbed into systemic circulation. About 70% of the active substance remains at the site of application. Protein binding (mainly to albumin) is 13%. Thiocolchicoside and its metabolites are mainly eliminated via feces.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

·hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; 

·skin damage (impaired integrity of the skin); 

·muscle hypotonia; 

·mild paralysis; 

·pregnancy; 

·lactation period; 

·  children under 15 years of age.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

With prolonged use, hypersensitivity reactions may develop (contact dermatitis, rash, urticaria, bronchial asthma, angioedema).

DRUG INTERACTIONS

There are no data on drug interactions. However, caution is recommended when used concomitantly with other muscle relaxants.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

In case of hypersensitivity reactions, treatment with the drug should be discontinued.

Muscomed cream should be applied only to intact skin, avoiding application to open wounds. After application, occlusive dressings should not be used. Contact with eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided.
