PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Insuton is an oral hypoglycemic agent belonging to the second-generation sulfonylurea class.

 It stimulates insulin secretion by the pancreas, reduces blood glucose levels, enhances glucose-induced insulin secretion, and increases the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin.

 Insuton shortens the time interval between food intake and the onset of insulin secretion.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

·Hypersensitivity to gliclazide or to any excipients of the product, to other sulfonylurea derivatives, or to sulfonamides;

·Type 1 diabetes mellitus;

·Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic precoma, or diabetic coma;

·Severe renal and/or hepatic impairment;

·Pregnancy and lactation;

·Age under 18 years;

·Concomitant use of miconazole;

·  Congenital lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Hypoglycemia (in case of non-compliance with the dosing regimen and inadequate diet), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation (the severity of these symptoms is reduced when the drug is taken with food), pruritus, urticaria, and skin rash.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Gliclazide enhances the effect of anticoagulants (warfarin); therefore, dose adjustment of the anticoagulant may be required. Miconazole and phenylbutazone increase the hypoglycemic effect of the drug. Ethanol and ethanol-containing medicinal products enhance hypoglycemia by inhibiting compensatory reactions and may contribute to the development of hypoglycemic coma.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Treatment with Insuton should be carried out only in combination with a low-calorie, low-carbohydrate diet. During therapy, blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, as well as urinary glucose levels, should be monitored regularly.

Insuton should be prescribed only to patients who have regular meals, including breakfast, and ensure adequate carbohydrate intake.
