ARTROCOL AMPOULES

COMPOSITION

1 ampoule contains:

Ketoprofen 100 mg\2 ml. 

INDICATIONS FOR USE 

Symptomatic treatment of painful inflammatory conditions of various origins:

• Rheumatoid arthritis 
• Ankylosing spondylitis 
• Psoriatic arthritis 
• Reactive arthritis 
• Gout, pseudogout 
• Osteoarthritis 
• Extra-articular rheumatism (tendinitis, bursitis, shoulder capsulitis) 

Pain syndrome (including postoperative and post-traumatic pain, dysmenorrhea, pain associated with tumor metastases). 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

The drug is administered at a dose of 2 ml (100 mg) 1–2 times per day.

The maximum daily dose should not exceed 300 mg.

The duration of use is several days.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Artrocol is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), a derivative of propionic acid. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Its mechanism is associated with inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) and reduced prostaglandin synthesis.

Ketoprofen provides pain relief through both peripheral and central mechanisms, affects pain mediators, exhibits antibradykinin activity, stabilizes lysosomal membranes, and reduces neutrophil activity. It also inhibits platelet aggregation.

Pharmacokinetics:

Bioavailability is about 90%. Peak plasma concentration is reached within 30 minutes. Protein binding is up to 99%. The half-life is approximately 2 hours. It penetrates into synovial fluid, where it persists longer than in plasma. It is mainly excreted in urine.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

• Hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, acetylsalicylic acid, or other NSAIDs;
• Gastrointestinal diseases in the acute phase;
• Severe hepatic and renal impairment;
• Hematological disorders (leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders);
• Decompensated heart failure;
• Postoperative period following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG);
• History of bronchial asthma, urticaria, or rhinitis induced by acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs;
• Third trimester of pregnancy;
• Lactation;
• Children under 15 years of age.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Possible adverse effects include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and flatulence; rarely, gastrointestinal bleeding may occur. Less commonly, asthenia, headache, dizziness, transient dysuria, and skin rash may be observed.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Since ketoprofen is extensively bound to plasma proteins, the doses of anticoagulants, diphenylhydantoin, or sulfur-containing drugs used concomitantly with Artrocol should be reduced.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Intramuscular administration should be carried out under medical supervision. Prolonged use of the drug is permitted only in a hospital setting.

Artrocol should be used with caution when administered concomitantly with acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs, lithium preparations, antihypertensive agents, diuretics, methotrexate, and antidiabetic drugs.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy is possible only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus.
