PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pharmacodynamics

Bactamed is a broad-spectrum combination antibiotic (ampicillin + sulbactam). Ampicillin exerts bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative aerobes and anaerobes by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the activity of ampicillin through a synergistic effect. After intramuscular administration, high plasma concentrations are achieved. Protein binding: ampicillin ~28%, sulbactam ~38%. Half-life (T½) — approximately 1 hour..

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug and other antibiotics of the penicillin group.
  • Infectious mononucleosis.
  • Lactation period.
  • The solvent containing lidocaine hydrochloride must not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to local anesthetics and in severe forms of cardiovascular diseases.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Diarrhea, pruritus, skin rash and other cutaneous reactions. Less frequently: nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, colic, drowsiness, malaise, headache.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Pharmaceutically incompatible with blood products, protein hydrolysates, and aminoglycosides. Bactericidal antibiotics used concomitantly with Baktamed exhibit synergism, while bacteriostatic drugs show antagonism.

Baktamed enhances the effect of indirect anticoagulants; reduces the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, drugs metabolized to para-aminobenzoic acid, and ethinylestradiol.

Diuretics, allopurinol, phenylbutazone, NSAIDs, and other drugs that reduce tubular secretion increase plasma concentrations of ampicillin.

Concomitant use with allopurinol increases the risk of skin rash.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

In patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins, cross-allergic reactions with cephalosporin antibiotics may occur.

During pregnancy, the drug may be used only if prescribed and under medical supervision.

During lactation, a decision should be made to discontinue breastfeeding.
