PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Iodine contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland and is a component of its hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine). It helps prevent the development of endemic goiter and cretinism.
Folic acid deficiency leads to impaired DNA synthesis in cells preparing for chromosome replication and division. The mechanism of action of folic acid is associated with its participation, in the form of tetrahydrofolate, in the synthesis of nucleic acids and cell division, as well as its role as a coenzyme in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. This makes folic acid a crucial factor in the development of the central nervous system, which forms in humans between days 15 and 28 after fertilization. Folic acid is essential for the normal maturation of megaloblasts and the formation of normoblasts. Its deficiency results in elevated plasma homocysteine levels, a marker of atherosclerotic changes.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
Yodofol should not be taken concomitantly with analgesics, anticonvulsants, antacids, cholestyramine, sulfonamides, antibiotics, and cytostatic agents, as these medications may reduce the absorption of folic acid.
Concomitant use of Yodofol with potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to hyperkalemia.
Simultaneous administration of Yodofol and lithium preparations may contribute to the development of goiter and hypothyroidism.
