– intestinal colic;

– as an adjunct in preparation for diagnostic abdominal procedures (e.g., X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopic examinations, including as an additive to contrast suspensions for double-contrast imaging);

– as an antifoaming agent in poisoning with surface-active substances (such as detergents or other cleaning agents).

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

The drug is taken orally during or after meals, and if necessary, before bedtime.

 The duration of treatment depends on symptoms and is determined individually. If necessary, Metigast can be used for a long period.

For gastrointestinal disorders caused by increased gas formation and intestinal colic:

Infants under 1 year: 5–10 drops with each feeding (added to the bottle or given with a spoon during or after feeding).

 Children 1–6 years: 10 drops 3–5 times daily.

For gastroduodenoscopy preparation: 50–75 drops (2–3 ml) orally before the procedure. If necessary, a few milliliters may be introduced through the endoscope to eliminate gas bubbles interfering with the examination.

DOSAGE FORM

Oral drops, 30 ml in a vial.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Simethicone is the active component of the drug and is a stable surface-active polydimethylsiloxane. It reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles contained in intestinal contents and mucus within the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to break down.

The released gases may then be absorbed through the intestinal wall or eliminated via intestinal peristalsis.

Simethicone acts only physically, does not participate in chemical reactions, and is pharmacologically and physiologically inert.

It is not absorbed after oral administration and is excreted unchanged through the gastrointestinal tract.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

·hypersensitivity to simethicone or any other components of the drug;

·intestinal obstruction;

·  hereditary fructose intolerance.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Adverse reactions associated with the use of simethicone at concentrations of 40 mg/ml and 100 mg/ml have not been observed. Allergic reactions to the components of the product are possible.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

For simethicone-based drugs (such as Metigast), clinically significant drug interactions are generally not described.

This is because simethicone:

    • is not absorbed into the bloodstream;
    • acts only physically in the intestine;
    • does not affect liver enzymes or drug metabolism.

Therefore, it typically does not alter the effects of other medications.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Metigast should be used with caution in patients with obstructive gastrointestinal diseases.

Metigast 100 mg/ml contains sorbitol; therefore, it should not be used in patients with the rare hereditary condition of fructose intolerance.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

No specific studies have been conducted on the use of the medicinal product during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, since the drug is not absorbed systemically, it may be used with caution in this group of patients under medical supervision.

Pediatric use

The drug is used in children according to indications and dosing regimen.
